Observations coming from the Pop Warner and AYF National Championships

Pop Warner is truly a nationwide youth basketball program that offers teams in 44 states and had about 400,000 kids participating from ages 5-15. Pop Warner has very rigorous age and weight requirements for every single age group that seems to have worked for them for decades. Kids with higher weights are not authorized to play at most.

AYF seems to have teams in every single one 50 states and over 600,000 participants age 5-15. AYF seems to have both a weighted and age structure equivalent to Pop Warner, even so they additionally have a great unlimited weight division at the same time. The AYF Tournament is held in Kissimmee, Florida at the same time when the Pop Warner Tournament. The 2 venues are about 20-25 minutes away from each other. I spent 3 days at the Pop Warner Tournament and 3 days at the AYF Tournament, nights were spent huddling with coaching staffs from North Carolina to California. It was a very long 7 days, youth sports coming from dawn to well beyond dusk. I watched 19 complete games and elements of about 20 others, so I got a very good appear at 38 teams plus a special peek at 40 extra teams. The Pop Warner Tournament hosted 64 teams, while the AYF Tournament had about 120 teams in it, while the AYF offers both weighted and unlimited divisions.

To make it to Florida in either tournament, your team seems to have to win your property area League Championship along with Regional Championship. Which means every one of the teams that get to Florida have data like 13-0 and 14-0, with many having some very gaudy numbers to go along with their impressive information. I can'capital t remember just how many times I heard coaches say that they had only been scored on 1- two times most season. Indeed the teams listed here are the big gorillas of their community locations, many of which have dominated wire to wire. Some dominated to their personal detriment, more on that in later posts.

Both tournaments are played on plenty of field venues. AYF plays at Austin, Tyndale Park, which has 7 fields. There are good 10 row grandstands, all the games are filmed by professionals and there will be a well carried out trophy presentation area sponsored by Under Armour. There are free video game and skills development areas to carry on the kids busy during breaks. There are plenty of foodstuff and souvenir vendors in-between fields for the players and fans too. To carry residence the "National Championship" feel there is actually signage everywhere coming from both AYF and it'utes numerous sponsors. Every day pass is $10, weekly pass is $25.

The Pop Warner Tournament will be held at Disney's Wild World of Sports complex on the Disney property. There are some fields and just about all games are filmed by professionals. You can purchase a DVD of any online for $30, just like at AYF, so most coaches have precise scouting material of their future opponents. At this particular tournament, you have many choices for food and drink and for souvenirs. There are probably twice numerous vendors at this particular location compared to AYF. The cheerleading competition is actually even held right here internal, and that means you will see thousands of little cheerleaders walking in and around in the complex. All of the games are also shown delayed with commentary on TVs in the eating places and public area in the complex courtesy of ESPN. That they give a real professional feel to the games, like NFL or College games. The "TV" field is field 17, individuals games may be seen stay in the restaurants and public area TVs. Highlights with the games with commentary are continuously being run on those types of screens. The cost for a 1 night pass at Disney is actually $13.50, for the week it is $40.00.

While obviously the Disney venue will be additional fan helpful and presents you locations you can sit down and take a good meal and watch the games on TV, both places have a "Championship Feel" about them. There are lots of smiling faces in both camps and both might seem to become run perfectly.

Dave Cisar- Dave seems to have a passion for developing youth coaches so they are able to in turn develop teams that are competitive and well organized. He will be a Nike "Coach in the Year" Designate and speaks nationwide at Coaches Clinics. His book "Winning Youth Soccer a Step by Step Package" was endorsed by Tom Osborne and Dave Rimington.
